ALERT: Fort Worth May See More Large Hail Monday 4/10/2017
As if the hailstorm that raged through the area a few weeks ago wasn’t enough, meteorologists predict that the DFW area may be in for another round of hail storms starting today.
From the Fort Worth Telegram:
Storms may develop along the Interstate 20 corridor, Godwin said, with the greatest threat for damaging hail in the early afternoon. Godwin said Monday’s severe weather will have larger potential for damaging hail than the severe storms that blew through North Texas last month, damaging many vehicles and homes, particularly in Denton and Collin counties.
Here are a few helpful tips to remember in the event of a hail storm:
1. Before a storm
Make a checklist of what you need to do before a storm hits. Things like boarding up your windows and (if the storm is less severe) using a tarp to protect your vehicle can ensure that you suffer from as little property damage as possible. In the event of a severe storm, map out a plan of action and look for your nearest hurricane evacuation route. Fill up your gas with car and take out cash just in case there is a major power outage in your area.
2. During a storm
If you are not able to safely evacuate the area or if the storm isn’t severe enough to warrant an evacuation, make sure you are in a covered area away from any windows or openings. Hail stones can fall hard enough to break through parked car windshields and puncture roof shingles. DO NOT go outside and film the hail from your patio or other covered areas. This is very unsafe and you could potentially be seriously hurt by a falling hail stone. Stay indoors until the storm has safely passed.
3. After the storm
Avoid walking to collect hail stones. A hail stone is as friction less as a piece of ice, so stepping on a hail stone could potentially cause you to trip and fall. If you can avoid driving on the road, do so. If you cannot, avoid all downed power lines.
