Nearly $2 Million Awarded For Moore Law Firm and Partner’s Hail Storm Client
John Griffith, a local McAllen attorney, had to wait nearly five years to see justice. Last week, Mr. Griffith saw exactly just that when a jury of his peers awarded him $1.8 million for his 2012 hail storm claim.
Moore Law Firm had partnered with Mostyn Law Firm (Houston, TX) to litigate Griffith’s case against USAA Texas Lloyd’s Company. Mr. Griffith’s home was severely damaged by the historic 2012 hail storm that rocked the McAllen area. Shortly after filing his homeowners insurance claim with his carrier, USAA Texas Lloyd’s denied and underpaid Mr. Griffith’s claim, acting in bad faith in an attempt to keep from paying out what Mr. Griffith deserved to fix his home.
After nearly a year and a half of dealing with USAA’s blatant injurious actions, Mr. Griffith subsequently hired Moore Law Firm and Mostyn Law Firm in December 2013. In April 2014, a lawsuit was officially filed against USAA Texas Lloyd’s detailing the numerous malicious acts their adjusters had committed in underpaying Mr. Griffith.
In a statement by Mostyn Law Firm, The jury awarded Mr. Griffith his damages simply because “USAA failed to comply with the homeowner’s insurance policy; failed to produce prompt, fair and equitable settlement of the claim, and knowingly made false statements.”
“This is most certainly a very important victory for our community and for the honest, hard-working residents who should expect to be treated fairly by their insurance carriers,” said J. Michael Moore, principle attorney and owner of Moore Law Firm.
